The most common gun used in World war one was called the Maxim gun, it was invented by Sir Hiram Stevens Maxim in 1883 and was the first recoil-operated machine gun. Today the machine gun has improved a great deal, they are lighter weight, have less recoil, cheaper to make and have bullets that are designed to kill humans.
